Separate current calls from historical programs

A previous recipient list can help you understand a program, but it does not establish that the program accepts applications today. Record the current call URL and confirmation date. If you find only an archive, mark the opportunity as needing verification rather than adding an invented deadline.

Identify what the award actually supports

Compare writing time, a translation project, research and a residency as separate possibilities. Check genre and career-stage requirements. Ask whether the work must already have a publisher or whether the award supports development before a publishing agreement.

Track applications without overstating progress

Keep ‘preparing’, ‘submitted’ and ‘awarded’ separate. Store a receipt or confirmation reference only after the funder confirms submission. If an offer arrives, review its terms and reporting requirements before treating it as unconditional support.
